Rachel nodded and looked over to give Quinn a soft smile, her hand reached over for Quinn’s giving it a small squeeze. “I’m glad you two are better.” She said, driving off to the main highway that took them to the beach. She shrugged, as Quinn asked about her summer. “All right I suppose. I’m trying out for a couple local theatre productions and working on my applications. Do you know about college yet?” She asked, hoping she didn’t sound rushed as she spoke. quinn made her nervous.

Quinn listened as Rachel spoke but she kept being distracted by Rachel’s hands on the steering wheel.  They were so…pretty, nails just so.  Quinn’s hands were neglected.  She used to get regular manicures, but now she just couldn’t care.  Maybe she would though, if she were going to hang out with Rachel.  “I’ve thought a little about college.  Probably local.  I’m not bound for greater things like you.”  she said softly.

Rachel pulled onto the highway, loving the organized way the cars drove. Her checks felt hot and her hands sweaty, she could feel Quinn’s eyes on her hands. She shook her head when Quinn said she wasn’t bound for great things. She took her eyes off the road and turned to face her. “Quinn, you’re incredibly talented. You could do anything.” She said honestly.

“It’s not that, you know, I’ve just always known my place in the world.  I will do what I want though.  I made up ,my mind.  No one will tell me where to go to school or what to study.”  She was sure of this.  This one thing.  But she was distracted again, this time by Rachel’s scent.  It was sort of filling the car and Quinn couldn’t tell if it was perfume or soap or shampoo or what, but it was amazing and sweet, and innocent.

Rachel smiled, and looked over at Quinn. “That’s my girl,” she whispered, hoping she hadn’t spoken loud enough to be heard by Quinn. She really was so proud of Quinn. She’d been through hell and back and was still going, was still trying. Rachel had to physically force herself to look at the road and not Quinn.

Quinn was relived to get out of the car at the beach.  Being close to Rachel was doing things to her, things she couldn’t quite face.  Thy unloaded the car, and found a nice spot to spread out their towels.  This stretch of beach seemed sot\rt of empty to Quinn, but it was nice not to have to deal with crowds and screaming kids.  “It’s so quiet.”  Quinn remarked as they settled down.

Rachel and Quinn set up two towels side by side and Rachel got to work setting up an umbrella as Quinn settled down onto her towel. Rachel had to force herself not to stare too long at Quinn’s perfect back. She sighed, this was going to be difficult. finally, she laid down next to Quinn, her toes just barely brushing Quinn’s, btu she didn’t move. “Yeah. It really is…” she said, breathlessly as she turned to face Quinn.

Quinn felt the brush of Rachel’s toes and it was like an arch of electricity passed between them.  She had never spent much time thinking of it, until recently, but the more she thought about, the more it tried to take root.  She love to touch Rachel more, she loved to…no Rachel was very straight, this was established.  So was Quinn for that matter.  Right?  “It’s nice though, to have a little stretch of beach to ourselves.”  Quinn bumped hr shoulder into Rachel’s for emphasis.  God this was going to be a long day.

Rachel’s check blushed bright red as Quinn bumped her shoulder, she smiled. “Yeah, for sure…” she whispered. She laid there a moment longer, still in thought. But finally, she sat up, turning to look at Quinn. “Quinn?” She whispered, lookking over at her, her hand wanting some badly to touch her check. “Can…can I kiss you?” The moment she said the words she automatically looked away. Oh shit…she thought.

Quinn felt little tingles of excitement run through her at Rachel’s question.  It had been on her mind for a while now and it was on Rachel’s too?  “Yes.”  Quinn whispered.  She turned her head and tried to remember how to breathe.  She hadn’t anted a kiss this bad in a long, long time.  Quinn reached out and stroked a strand of Rachel’s hair, gently, trying to make the anticipation last.

Rachel nervously reached a hand out, placing it softly on Quinn’s check. She felt a shiver run through her spine as Quinn stroked her hair. She smiled her heart fluttering a bit. finally, she leaned forward and kissed Quinn. The kiss was softly at first, but within a moment, the kiss was overcome in passion.

Quinn shivered under Rachel gentle touches, and when their lips met fireworks seemed to go off all around them.  Quinn rolled to her side and pulled Rachel close because she couldn’t stop herself.  Rachel’s lips were so soft.  So sweet, it was intoxicating.  Quinn tangled her fingers into Rachel’s long, soft hair, and hummed against her lips in pleasure.

Rachel nervously tied the straps of her bikini up around the back of her neck, before pulling on some jean shorts and a tank top. She knew she had no reason to be nervous, Quinn was her friend. They were going to the beach as just friends. Rachel had to remind herself of this…

Rachel had only been to Quinn’s once around October last year after a football game. Sam was out with the guys and Quinn needed a ride. Quinn spent the whole time bitching about how she didn’t feel close to Sam, how there wasn’t that spark. Rachel listened intently trying to be a good friend, but more then anything, she wanted to tell her she felt that spark with her. “Shut up, Berry,” she whispered to herself, as she cut the engine. “You’re friends…” she climbed out fo the car and made her way to the front door, knocking on the wood.

Quinn let her mom get the door but she was right there ready to go with her bag in her green bikini with her tie dye cover up.  Change number five.  “Hello Rachel.  Mother you remember Rachel, right?”  Quinn asked cordially.  Her mother did remember and then the girls were out the door.  “I’m so glad you called.”  She said.  Summer alone with Mom has been interesting at best.  We are having quality time.”  This last part was said with sarcasm.  Quinn eyed Rachel carefully out of the corner of her eye.  Her hair looked amazing today.

Rachel swifted from foot to foot, nervously. “Hello Ms. Fabray, it’s nice to see you.” She said softly, waving a bit awkwardly. As she swifted left agian, she bumped Quinn. “Sorry,” she whispered. They then were off in the car and Rachel was thankful for the seatbelts to keep the distance. There was too much friction between them. Or maybe it was all in Rachel’s head. “Are you two better now though?” She asked, her eyebrows furrowing in concern for Quinn and her mom’s relationship

“We’re better, I mean other than the overcompensating thing, Mom has been great.”  Quinn was glad her mom had been so great about everything.  She hadn’t even seen her dad since he kicked her out, and that was really okay with her.  “How’s your summer going?”  This was Quinns sort of underhanded way of checking to see if Rachel was seeing Finn.  She sort of had hopes for so,me reason that Rachel had adopted her own outlook for the summer.  It would mean more time for them, more time for hanging out that is.

Rachel nodded and looked over to give Quinn a soft smile, her hand reached over for Quinn’s giving it a small squeeze. “I’m glad you two are better.” She said, driving off to the main highway that took them to the beach. Rachel nervously tied the straps of her bikini up around the back of her neck, before pulling on some jean shorts and a tank top. She knew she had no reason to be nervous, Quinn was her friend. They were going to the beach as just friends. Rachel had to remind herself of this fact several times as she packed her beach bag. And even more times when she climbed into the car and drove to Quinn’s house.

Quinn changed three times before deciding on a tankini.  She was nervous that her body wasn’t what it used to be.  Before the baby.  What if Rachel noticed?  Oh goodness, Quinn thought, how ridiculous.  Rachel wasn’t really like that, but she worried nonetheless.  Finally Quinn worried over her hair, over her flip flops, found a matching towel and promised to call her mom of she was going to be very late.

  • Rachel: Hey Quinn. I kind of wanted to go to the beach, but didn't want to go on my own. I was hoping maybe you'd want to go?
  • Quinn: Sure, I'm actually free for a change and that sounds great!
  • Rachel: Oh really? Oh, awesome. Uhm, want me to pick you up, say, 3?
  • Quinn: Sounds perfect! See you then.
